The government is preparing to announce a substantial increase of up to 193% in gas prices, effective from October 1, according to insiders. They have suggested raising the fixed monthly fees for protected gas consumers from Rs10 per month to Rs400 per month.
As per the proposal, a 172% increase is being considered for gas charges designated for domestic consumers, and a 193% increase is on the table for other consumer categories.
This move is part of the caretaker government’s plan to raise gas tariffs to address the circular debt issue and align with commitments made to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
