Australia is the New World Champion, Defeated India with 6 Wicket in World Cup Final

Ahmedabad witnessed a grand upset as Australia dethroned the undefeated favourites India in a breathtaking finale, clinching the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 by six wickets.

Despite a shaky start losing three early wickets in the run chase, Kangroos clinched commanding win at a packed Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday evening.

Middle-order batsmen played pivotal roles in Australia’s triumphant chase, with a stellar 137-run knock off 120 balls by Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne contributing a steady 58 off 110 balls, guiding Australia to a comfortable victory.

This triumph marked a historic 6th title win for Australia led by Captain Pat Cummins and his team, defying pre-tournament predictions that did not favour them. Their journey to the championship started with a clash against India in Chennai on October 8, where Virat Kohli and KL Rahul steered India to their initial victory.

India, despite Kohli’s resilient 54 and Rahul’s impressive 66, faced a batting collapse in Ahmedabad’s grand finale, setting a modest target of 241 runs in 50 overs.

Australia’s bowling brilliance, spearheaded by Mitchell Starc’s remarkable figures of 3-55 in 10 overs, effectively contained India’s batting prowess. Captain Cummins and Josh Hazlewood complemented with notable performances, limiting India’s charge on a pitch conducive to both batsmen and bowlers.

While Rohit Sharma displayed his attacking style with 47 runs from 31 balls India faltered as no other batter could challenge the Australian bowling unit resulting in a subdued performance on the grand stage.

Kangroo’s 6th World title secured on Indian soil marks a significant milestone widening the gap with other nations in the title tally, including India’s two World Cup victories along with the West Indies’. Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and England have each claimed the coveted title once.

This victory adds another illustrious chapter to Australia’s cricketing history, reaffirming their dominance on the global stage and etching their name as World Cup champions once again, following their previous win at home in 2015.
