The word attitude is related to “ act ”. Its definition is the consummation of a purpose or intention , that is, performing a particular behavior .

The attitude of an individual , synonymous with action, may depend on genetic agents and external stimuli.

Definition of Attitude

The conception of the attitude will depend, to a great extent, on the academic area or the perspective that is focused. Some of them are:


The psychological attitude is the habitual behavior that originates in different circumstances. It determines the psychic life of the individual. Furthermore, it is expressed by the repetitive reactions of a human being to a stimulus.

It is decisive in character studies , as indicative of an acquired or innate reaction.



The pedagogical attitude  is defined as an underlying ability that, with certain other attributions, favors the disposition of a complexity of behaviors according to one or more objects.

It includes the affirmation of opinions and feelings related to them and about acts of repulsion or attraction.


Attitude in sociology is established as the system of beliefs and values , which prevails over time, whether private or of a social group.

Its position creates a predisposition to react or feel in a definite way to various stimuli . Often these attitudes can be associated with a particular group, an example of which is sexual gender.

Body posture

The attitude that a person has towards an established stimulus can be accompanied by a certain body posture . That is, if the individual feels threatened or attacked, he can maintain a defensive attitude.


The philosophical attitude is what allows a critical analysis of something determined as true. That is, do not get carried away by common sense, but by reasoning and analysis of the event.

Types of Attitudes

There are two types of general classifications to define the attitude of an individual . In this opportunity, we will meet one of them:


Positive attitude encompasses all the characteristics that make people see the positive side in different areas and situations in life.

A person with this attitude tends to see the good in others and feels happy. It is more than a simple decision or occasion, it becomes a way of seeing the world , even when things do not go as expected.


In the negative attitude on the contrary, people tend to see the disadvantage of everything . Not only are they content to perceive negativism, but they amplify and stagnate it. For them, a failure or error can become a great catastrophe.

Difference Between Attitude and Aptitude

Attitude and aptitude are two words spelled correctly and with totally different meanings. Both are often confused and used interchangeably, which is incorrect.

We will see what is the difference between attitude and aptitude , when we use one word and another. We will also see several examples so you can remember the correct use of each one.

Many similar terms are confusing because they look the same, such as attitude and aptitude . But its meaning is totally different.

Perhaps the confusion stems from the fact that often having the attitude to do something does not mean that it will work . It takes a lot of aptitude to be successful in the attempt.
